Ambassador to India, Former Vice Chairman, National Planning Commission of Nepal
Dr. Sharma is the Ambassador of Nepal to India. He is also a distinguished Economist and Diplomat with a notable career spanning government, international institutions, and economic research. He served as the Ambassador of Nepal to the United States from 2009 to 2014 and was the Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission from 2002 to 2006.
Dr. Sharma earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Hawaii and played a crucial role as a consultant to the Constitution Committee on "Distribution of Natural Resources, Economic Rights, and Public Revenue," contributing to the drafting of Nepal's new Constitution. His extensive experience includes roles such as Chief Advisor in the Ministry of Finance, Alternate Governor of Nepal for the International Monetary Fund, and Senior Economist at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (1986–1993). He has also served as a Senior Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance, Nepal, and as a Fellow at the East-West Center in Hawaii. Additionally, Dr. Sharma was a Professor of Economics at the Centre for Economic Development and Administration, Tribhuvan University, reflecting his deep expertise and commitment to economic development and policy.
