Er. Pawan Karki

Mr. Karki is a seasoned civil engineer with over 38 years of experience across 16 countries mainly 22 years in Central Asia, 2 years in Europe, and 14 years in South Asia. He is a Chartered Engineer from the Institution of Engineers (UK), CEng, MICE, FCIHT, Eur Ing, APMG, MNArbC, and Certified Project Director from the International Project Management Association.
With advanced degrees from the Moscow Automobile Institute and the University of Strathclyde, respectively in Civil Engineering and MSc., Pawan has dedicated much of his career to leading transport infrastructure projects. Mr. Karki is a frequent speaker at regional Transport-related seminars and conferences. In October 2023 he presented a technical paper “Anticipating the climate impact for road pavements at the World Road Congress in Prague representing ADB.
He has held key positions, including the Head of Transport Unit and Principal Transport Specialist in Central Asia, and is currently the Senior Investment Officer at AIIB. Pawan is recognized for his ability to build strong client relationships and navigate complex projects, especially in procurement and contract management. His work has been honored multiple times, including awards from the governments of Nepal, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. A frequent speaker at international conferences, Pawan continues to contribute to the field through technical papers and mentoring the next generation of professionals.
In recognition of his contributions, Pawan has received numerous awards, including honors from the Queen of Nepal in 1990 for his service to civil engineering, the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan in 2005, and multiple awards from the Uzbek government in 2021 and 2023 for his contributions to the road sector. In 2021, he was also honored with the Bravo Award for Knowledge Products by the Vice President of ADB.
