Former Prime Minister of Nepal and Chairman, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre)
Hon’ble Pushpa Kamal Dahal, a prominent figure in Nepalese politics, is the former Prime Minister of Nepal and the Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) political party. Since July 2024, he has served as the Leader of the Opposition.
Dahal's tenure as Prime Minister spanned three distinct periods: from 2008 to 2009, when he became the first Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, again from 2016 to 2017, and most recently from 2022 to 2024.
His political journey began in the early 1980s after he joined the Communist Party of Nepal (Fourth Convention) in 1981 and was later appointed as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Mashal) in 1989, which eventually transformed into the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). He led the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) through the tumultuous period of Nepal’s civil war and played a pivotal role in the peace process that followed. Dahal’s leadership and strategic vision were instrumental in the rise of the CPN (M) as one of the major political forces in Nepal.
